U-Bolt Skid Plate System for Jeep Flat Fenders

On early Jeeps, the factory U-bolts hang below the leaf springs — making them one of the first components to snag on rocks, tree roots, or trail obstacles. These upgraded U-bolt skid plates reposition the hardware above the bottom edge of the leaf spring, dramatically improving ground clearance and reducing the risk of damage while off-roading.

Built from strong 3/16-inch laser-cut steel, these plates are designed to fit 1-3/4” wide stock or lift-kit leaf springs. Each kit includes shorter U-bolts to match the raised mounting location, and an integrated raised shock mount for improved protection. Field-tested on the Rubicon, these skids are a proven upgrade for stock-height flat fenders that sit low from the factory.

All versions include installation hardware. Skid plates are shipped raw, uncoated steel — ready for your choice of paint or powder coat.

Important Notes

  • Fully Welded Assemblies – Take them out of the box, bolt them on, and hit the trail. No fabrication required.
  • The lower shock mount sits 1 inch higher than the stock location
→ Bump stop adjustment may be required to prevent the shocks from bottoming out before the axle contacts the bump stop.
  • Not compatible with flanged Dana 44 rear axles without modification and different U-bolts.
